The Fisher mansion opens its doors Thursday.
Our scouts surfaced 106 Michigan sales this week. Full disclosure first: our photo-reader is in the shop this week, so no Diamond Slate — the humans read every listing the old-fashioned way instead. Turns out we picked a good week to do it by hand.
Because the front page walked in on its own: a Historic Indian Village sale in Detroit offering items from the Lawrence Fisher mansion — the Fisher Body family. If you grew up in Michigan, “Body by Fisher” was stamped on the door sill of every GM car you ever rode in. That story is below, along with five sales worth the gas and the full weekend slate.

The Front Page |
Detroit · Historic Indian Village · The Fisher Family Sale
Detroit 48214 · Hartt Estate Sales · Lansing’s a 90-minute run; worth it
| Thu Jun 11 → Sun Jun 14 · Thu–Sat 9–6 · Sun 10–5 |
The listing says it plainly: a four-day sale offering “many items from the Lawrence Fisher mansion on Lenox Avenue” — and the cover photo is the c. 1936 black-and-white of Margaret Theisen Fisher, seated at the center of her seven sons, taken at her birthday.
If the name doesn’t ring a bell, the door sill of your dad’s Oldsmobile remembers: the seven Fisher brothers built Fisher Body, the coachworks behind “Body by Fisher” on practically every GM car of the century, and the Fisher Building still standing on West Grand Boulevard. Estate sales move furniture every weekend. Every once in a while, one moves a piece of Detroit. This is that one.
At the door: family-provenance sales reward the early line and the patient question. Ask the staff which pieces trace to the mansion — provenance is the whole ballgame on a sale like this, so ask before you assume, and ask for paperwork where it matters.
we don’t run the sale. we just told you where to be when the doors open.

Worth the Drive Farther out, but loaded — what the operators themselves are billing. Diamonds you drive for. |
Fenton · “A Creative Life” — a fine-art collection
Fenton 48430 · Thu Jun 11 (noon) → Fri Jun 12 · Estate Sales By Joann
- The operator bills a fine-art collection “featuring works by Romare Bearden and others.” Bearden (1911–1988) is one of the giants of American collage — if the attribution holds, this is the art event of the Michigan weekend.
- At the door: attribution is the operator’s claim — ask for provenance, signatures, and any gallery labels before you bid with your heart.

Merrill · Three generations of farm
Merrill 48637 · Thu Jun 11 → Sat Jun 13 · P & S Estate Liquidation
- “Fantastic 3 Generation Merrill Farm Sale” — three generations on one farm means the barns never got cleaned out. Primitives, tools, and farm iron tend to surface at exactly this kind of sale, and the listing has been up since spring — the operator’s been staging it.

Kalamazoo · Texas Corners “Estate Extravaganza”
Kalamazoo 49009 · Thu Jun 11 → Sat Jun 13 · House of Memories Estate Services
- The operator’s own billing: vehicles, antiques, glassware, collectibles, decor — with a string of plus signs after it. When an operator runs out of category names, the house is full. Vehicles at estate sales reward the Thursday arrival; titles move fast.

Gregory · A lifetime antique collector’s farmhouse
Gregory 48137 · Thu Jun 11 → Fri Jun 12 · Heritage Property & Estate Management
- “Lifetime Antique Collector’s Farmhouse Sale | Rare Smalls & Timeless Furnishings.” “Rare smalls” is operator-speak for the cabinet pieces serious hunters drive for — and it’s a two-day sale, so the good cabinet empties Thursday.

East Lansing · Old Whitehills, the full house
East Lansing 48823 · Thu Jun 11 → Sat Jun 13 · Richard Hornaday Estate Sale Services
- “Stunning Old Whitehills full house sale” — Whitehills is one of East Lansing’s old-money neighborhoods, and a full-house sale there is the home-bureau play of the week. No 90-minute drive required for this one.
